Since the mid 1990s Fred Furth has embarked upon an ongoing program to expand, enhance and develop the Bordeaux varietal plantings at Chalk Hill. Through exploration and study, the discovery of several south-facing sites allowed for the establishment of vineyards that include Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. Beginning in 2003, further planting of Bordeaux varietals on a 34-acre south-west facing red wine site led to the creation of a single red wine that evokes the unique character of the Chalk Hill Estate.

First released in 2007, the Estate Red wine includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. With Cabernet Sauvignon representing the majority of the blend, this is a complex, age-worthy red wine whose varietal content mirrors that of the vineyards on which it was grown.
